I only have one photo of my first child’s birth; one out of focus cellphone photo of the two of us, taken a few minutes after she was born. While I’ll never forget the feeling of meeting my baby for the first time, there are things I wish I could look back on that are gone from my memory. The color of the walls in the delivery room or the machines that tracked my baby’s heart rate for hours. The look on my husband’s face as our daughter was born or the look on her face as she breathed her first breath.
So why do you need a birth photographer? From one mama to another, when you’re in labor you will be turned inward. The buzz of the world will fade away as you focus on breathing the new life inside you into the world. Your partner won't be thinking about taking photos, because he will be focused on you. Hiring a photographer is how you guarantee that you’ll get to go back and see the sweat, tears, joy, and triumph of the miraculous thing you accomplished when you brought your baby earthside.
Because I care so deeply about supporting moms through this life-changing experience, I also offer doula services for families who are looking for extra guidance, encouragement, and hands-on support during labor and birth. My doula services are a separate offering (not complimentary with photography), and are meant to help you feel calm, empowered, and cared for every step of the way. If having both birth photography and doula support feels right for you, you can find more information about my doula services below.
Childbirth is one of the most transformative, empowering experiences you will ever go through in your life. You deserve to have it documented.
Your birth deserves to be captured with care, respect, and deep understanding. As a mama of three, I have experienced the raw beauty of birth firsthand, and as a professional birth photographer, I know how to document these moments with sensitivity and intention. I understand when to be fully present and when to step back, giving you the space to embrace each moment without intrusion. It is an absolute honor to be invited into your sacred birth space, and I approach each story with reverence, ensuring that your journey is remembered just as it unfolds; beautiful, powerful, and uniquely yours.
Why choose me? I get birth.
While phone cameras are getting better, they can’t compete with a pro in a birth space. I bring top-of-the-line gear that works in low light, fast action, and tricky hospital conditions. Plus, I know how to work respectfully in your space. Your partner should be fully present with you, not juggling a camera. I make sure your whole story is beautifully captured without anyone missing out on the moment. As an Edmonton birth photographer, I know how to anticipate key moments and preserve them with intention, even in unpredictable environments.
Lighting varies from birth to birth. I sometimes prefer natural light, but if it’s too dark, I use a gentle bounced flash that reflects off the wall or ceiling – never directly at you. If the flash bothers you, I’m totally fine working without it. My camera is made for low-light and can handle it beautifully.
I ask to be notified in early labor so I can be ready. I usually join you once you’re in active labor and no longer talking through contractions. I stay until after baby’s first exam and some sweet skin-to-skin bonding time.
I’m very aware of how sacred the birth space is and will always aim make my presence quiet and unobtrusive. I stay in the background, capturing moments without interrupting or taking up space.
Call me! If I can’t be in the OR (depends on the hospital), I’ll be there before and after to capture the full story. I can also prep your support person to take a few photos with my camera in the OR if absolutely necessary.
Call me when labor starts so I can prepare. Once you’re in active labor, I’ll head your way. I’ve missed a birth that was extremely fast before, but if it happens, I can still come as soon as possible to document those precious post-birth moments.
Only if you want me to! I get your permission first and we discuss exactly what you’re comfortable sharing. Your story, your choice.
The earlier the better so you can guarantee a spot on my calendar! I only take on one birth per month so that my attention is never divided. That said, don’t hesitate to reach out no matter where you are in your pregnancy.
Absolutely. If you experience a loss, I offer bereavement photography with the utmost care and sensitivity. These sessions are quiet, respectful, and centered on giving you something tangible to hold on to during an unimaginably difficult time. I will walk with you gently, follow your lead, and make sure the experience feels supportive and safe. If this is something you need, I am here for you.
